St Norbert's Chapter for our Book

Seven Schools for Seven Days Year 5

Jake always wanted to be early, but for one main reason he always seemed to be late.  Late to school, late for dinner, late for absolutely everything!

The reason Jake was always late was he was too busy trying out new popular hairstyles and looking in the mirror to make sure he looked just right.  Today was no exception and, of course, Jake was running late again!  Ella was fed up and stood waiting aggravated at the park gate.  She leaned against the rusty gate with her arms crossed, tapping her feet impatiently on the floor.  She stared down the path to see Jake legging it to catch her up.  He always managed to get there by the skin of his teeth Ella thought to herself.

Finally Jake arrived and the two children strolled through the park on the look out for Fred the park keeper.  The children spotted Fred over near the brightly coloured flower beds on his hands and knees.  They rushed over the Fred.  Alfie the African grey parrot was on his shoulder.

"Hi" shouted the children.  Fred looked up and stood up slowly.

"I want to give you something" exclaimed Fred he was holding a dirty old trowel in his hand.  He handed the trowel to Ella.

"Be careful" warned Fred.  They were soon to find out what he meant.  As soon as Ella's finger tips touched the trowel they all felt a sudden crack appear beneath their feet.  Jake grabbed the trowel and made the crack bigger.  Suddenly they were both sucked into the darkness.  They closed their eyes and for the first time in their lives grabbed to hug each other as tightly as possible.

With a sudden bump they landed on a hard surface.  Jake opened his eyes.  It was pitch black ...  it seemed to take ages to get his eyes to focus.  Ella whispered "We are not in the park anymore".
